 \bf Vibrations

The main source of sound is vibration of any kind. When a body moves to and fro about a fixed position, the motion is called oscillatory or vibratory motion. The movement of the pendulum of a wall clock and see-saw are examples of vibratory motion. These to and fro movements or Sur vibrations are oscillations. Vibration is a rapid to and fro and up and down movement about a mean position. Sound is produced as a result of vibrations that travel through the air to our ears from the source of sound. Air molecules around the vibrating bodies are responsible for transmitting these vibrations.

Additional informatioN

Sound plays an important role in the life of humans. You get to know about many things happening around you through sounds. For example, when you hear the knocking of the door, you come to know that someone is at the door. The horn of a vehicle or bell of a cycle warns you you if you are walking on the road. By hearing the voice of a person, you can guess whether know that person or not. This shows that sound is a form of energy. It helps us in hearing.
