Momentum of a body is defined as the product of its mass and velocity
So , momentum = Mass × Velocity
The momentum of the body is denoted by 'p' , mass is denoted by 'm' and velocity by 'v'
So, p=mv

momentum has a sense of direction and hence it is a vector quantity

The SI unit of momentum is kgm/s and the CGS unit of momentum is g/cms

As mentioned above,

the units of momentum will be the product of the units of mass and velocity. Mass is measured in kg and velocity in ms -1, therefore, the SI unit of momentum will be kgm/s (-1).
