The product of force and displacement in direction of force is called work.
w= Fs cos¤ (¤=theta) .
SI unit of work is joule named after scientist james prescoutt joule

Work is done by any object when a force is applied on the object and it moves from one point to another.
Work done = Force × Displacement × cosine of angle between the direction of force & displacement.
W = FS cos theta.
The SI unit of work is Joule.
1 joule of work is done by an object when a 1 Newton of force is applied on it,and it get displaced by 1 metre. (the direction of force and displacement should be same i.e angle should be equal to zero).
