Simulation is the imitation of the operation of a real-world process or system. The act of simulating something first requires that a model be developed; this model represents the key characteristics, behaviors and functions of the selected physical or abstract system or process. The model represents the system itself, whereas the simulation represents the operation of the system over time.

Modelling andsimulation is a discipline for developing a level of understanding of the behaviour of the parts of a system, andof the system as a whole. Modelling and simulation is verymuch an art. One can understand about riding a bicycle fromreading a book. To really learn to ride a bicycle, one mustactively practice with a bicycle. Modelling and simulationfollows much the same principle. You can learn much aboutmodelling and simulation from reading books and talking withmodellers. Skill and talent in developing models andperforming simulations are only developed through buildingmodels and simulating them. Models are used particularly inthe basic sciences and engineering disciplines (such aschemistry, physics, biology, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, etc. and alsoin the social sciences (such as sociology, economics, politicalscience, etc. Therefore, !rst we wish to know the generalde!nition of the model and then we will know the de!nition of the process model
