Demand segmentation is used when insufficiency hardware to implement demand paging. OS/2 ( 80286) allocates memory in segment which it keeps track of through segment descriptors . Segment descriptor contain a valid bit to indicate whether the segment is currently in memory. If not in memory then segment fault.
