Doab is a term used for the plot of land prevailing within two confluent or converging rivers. The Ganges-Yamuna doab signifies the low-lying alluvial region within the Ganges and Yamuna waterways stretching from the Sivalik Hills to the two streams' convergence at Allahabad. The British raj split the Doab into three governmental divisions in which, Meerut was Upper Doab, Agra was Middle Doab and Allahabad was Lower Doab.
