Computers are based on the fundamental idea that every input results in an output. ... The keyboard is an input device and the screen is an output device. You might also print the text using a printer, which is another output device

In computer fundamental, an input device sends data to the system for task processing whereas, an output device displays or reproduces the result of the processing task.

Input devices allow only to input data to a computer whereas, an output devices receives the data output from another device.

Most devices are either input devices or output devices as they can only take a data input or generate an output data by a computer.

There are, however, some devices that can accept input and process the output as a display and they are known to as I/O devices (input/output devices).
