Paleography

Paleography is the science of understanding the writing on the ancient written manuscripts and on the monuments. To dissect their parts and know about the sources and follow the various changes that the writings would have gone through over the years.

It is the method of a systematic study of ancient and medieval times written documents and manuscripts. The word has been taken from the Greek word ‘palaios’ which mean ‘old’ and ‘graphein’ which mean ‘to write’. The inscriptions on objects which cannot be moved also contained writings which are a part of paleography.
