India has several political parties at national and regional level. Each political party selects one particular symbol that is relevant to their party manifesto, ideology, principles, etc. and gets approved by the Election Commission. They then use this symbol for their publicity during campaigns and these symbols are then allocated to the voting machine so that it becomes easy for voters to distinguish each party.

Political parties in countries across the world have unique election symbols that distinguish them from other political parties. These symbols ought to be approved and registered with the election commissions or such other body of that particular country. Independent candidates are allotted symbols from among the unreserved ones by the election commission for fighting a specific election.
