The demand for the formation of Vidarbha( far eastern region of Maharashtra) has been raised from time to time. It was referred to as the Vidarbha movement that was first raised almost 100 years ago.

This corresponds to the 11 eastern districts of Maharashtra. As a result of this movement, the Central Province legislature passed a resolution to form the 'Mahavidarbha' at Nagpur in 1938.
