From the perspective of a common citizen, democracy allows the people to correct their choices, if found wrong. For example, supposing the people have elected a particular party as the ruling party, in case the party does not serve upto the expectations of the people, they can correct this by voting for a better party the next time.
Looking at it from the perspective of a political leader, if there has been any downfall in their service, not being in power for the next tenure can make him/her realize the mistake and correct it to try and win back power the next time.

Democracy gave the citizen the right to choose as who shall lead and represent the nation on behalf of their own presence as population.

Explanation:

The right to choose the representative comes from the right to vote, and voting is solely based on self-conscience. One may vote for any particular leader who he might have thought to be people serving modest and loyal, but on acquiring the position may turn down these expectation. Hence in the next casting of vote, he can rectify his own committed mistakes by voting wisely.
