Democracy is a political system; not some sort of curative pill. It is a social order agreed by humans living in a particular area, system that states the (when it comes to collective issues the collective solution proposed by the 51% of the people shall hold primacy over the 49%). If 49% of the population desires some changes in social order they have to lobby, educate and campaign for their cause.
Coming to the question I propose that Democracy is a system that has the potential to eliminate violence out of the society (or least violent). Transition happens is systemic way through a gradual process of social emancipation. For example current middle east violence is a result of the stagnated political setup where people where denied transition, the lava of anger boiled and few miscreants took the situation hostage to their control example ISIS and General Sisi.
Success of a democracy is positively correlated Tax payments. Why have we seen democracy failing in Pakistan and to a large extent in India and Bangladesh as well a meager tax collections. Less money in coffers mean less medicine in the hospitals, lower quality education and poor policing etc. Thus a rule of thumb; for a democracy to succeed strong taxation system is required.
Pakistan for example all social malignancies (caste system is a consequence of Gen Ayub Khans EBDO where all existing politicians were banned; East Pakistan secession result of Ayub Khan and Gen Yahya Khan joint venture of hate and disrespect; Gen Zia gave us Narcotics & Militant Islamist; General Musharaf not only saved Taliban but also gave us the Taliban brand) were developed during the military rules where a strong army man disrespect to the constitutional and social norms took the reigns of the government.
