In any society people are bound to have differences of opinions and interests.These differences are particularly sharp in a country like ours which has an amazing social diversity.People belonging to different regions speak different languages,practice different religions and have different castes.They look at the world very differently and have different preferences.The preferences of one group can clash with others.The conflict can be solved by brutal power.But that would lead to unhappiness.Democracy provides the only solution to this problem.In democracy no one is a permanent winner.No one is a permanent loser.Different groups can live with one another peacefully.In a diverse country like India democracy keeps our country together.

1. The democratic form of government in India gives equal rights to the people; it does not discriminate on the basis of sex, religion, color, caste etc.  

2. Democracy of India promotes the redistributive mechanism for conveying financial benefits on the grounds of the necessity of any section of the community, this directs to a more equal division of privi-leges to under privilege which overcomes poverty.

3. Democracy enhances the degree of decision-making by giving the right of Universal Adult Franchise.

4. By giving the fundamental rights it gives freedom of expression to every citizen of India.

5. By giving reservations to women, minority and socially weaker sections of the society in education, government jobs and politics, India has shown that democracy can keep a nation with diversity together.
