It is known that
Average velocity =total displacement (s) /total time taken (t) =s/t .............. (1)
Also,
Average velocity (when is body is uniformly accelerated) =[ initial velocity (u) + final velocity (v)] /2=(u+v)/2.................... (2)
From 1 and 2 we get
s/t=(u+v)/2
=>s/t=(u+u+at)/2 ... [since, v= u+at]
=>s=(2u+at)t/2
=>s=2ut/2 + at²/2
=>s=ut + 1/2at²
