initial velocity be u

stopping capacity or retardation be -a

by kinematics

 {v}^{2}  -  {u}^{2}  =  - 2as \\ as \: v = 0 \\  =  >   - {u}^{2}  =  - 2as \\  = >  {u}^{2}  = 2as \\  =  > s =   \frac{ {u}^{2} }{2a}
