y/x = y/f - 1

Explanation:

the magnification = height of image ÷ height of object  

                            = distance of image ÷ distance of object

                            = y  ÷  x

                            = y/x

mirror formula :1/f  = 1/x + 1/y

1/x + 1/y = 1/f

multiply both sides by (y) :

y/x + 1 = y/f

y/x = y/f - 1
