This is the Ziggurat of Ur (mostly reconstructed) from which the previous picture was taken. (For any speaker of German reading this, by the way, it should be “die Ziggurat”.) The landscape is largely devoid of trees. The chief building material traditionally was, well, mud — baked to brick. What did they use as fuel for fires if there were no trees?
