During a single cycle blood goes twice in the heart which is known as double circulation. It is necessary in human being to separate oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood because this makes their circulatory system is more efficient and helps in maintaining constant body temperature.

Double circulation has the following two types of circulation -

1. Pulmonary Circulation -

The deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle is pumped to lungs through pulmonary arteries. The blood in lungs is oxygenated. This oxygenated blood is returned to heart into left auricle by pulmonary veins.

2. Systemic circulation -

The oxygenated blood from the left ventricle goes to all body parts through aorta and is returned to heart to its right auricle.

Since, the blood moves two times through the heart, it is called Double circulation.
