1. Star Topology

Advantages :-

• It is easy to connect new nodes and devices in this topology.
• It has a centralized management which helps in monitoring the network.

Disadvantages :-

• It is expensive to install.
• Extra hardware is needed in this topology.

2. Bus topology

Advantages:-

• It is easy to set-up and extend bus network.
• Bus topology costs very less.

Disadvantages :-

• It is difficult to detect and troubleshoot fault an individual station
• It is not suitable for networks with heavy traffic.

3. Tree Topology

Advantages :-

• Expansion of network is possible and easy.
• Error detection and correction is easy.

Disadvantages:-

• With increase in size beyond a point, the management becomes difficult.
• Scalability of the network depends on the type of cable used.

4. Ring Topology

Advantages :-

• This type of network topology is very organised. Each node gets to send data when it received an empty token. This helps to reduce chances of collision.
• There is no need of network server to control the connectivity between workstations.

Disadvantages :-

• If one workstation goes down , the entire network gets affected .
• Network is highly dependent on the wire which connects different components.
