Fill the cylinder about half way with water and measure the amount.  Then drop the rock in and measure the amount of water. Then now subtract no rock from rock in and that will give you the amount of volume displayed from the rock.

You can also fill the graduated cylinder to the top with water, 2) next take the rock and lowly emerge into the water,( water will spill over the top of the glass so do so in a sink or outside in a cement, 3)last the amount of water left in the cylinder is the volume of your rock.

First the experimenter needs to fill the half of a marked graduated cylinder with water.

Record the measurement by reading the marking from the side of the beaker.

Then place the stone inside the water, covering till the top of the rock salt stone.

Record the new volume by reading the measurement at water level.

Subtract the first recorded volume from the second recorded volume to calculate the stone's volume.
