a simple experiment to show that a freely suspended magnet always faces a particular direction is that , hang a bar magnet with a thread t some height from the ground and remember to mark its poles, north and south.now rotate it twice or thrice and the leave it , when it settles compelrtly, it will definitely face the north direction
