The khilafat movement was the movement which took place to reform the post of "khalifa", that was removed by the britishers according to the treaty of world war 1. Later the khilafa movement was combined with non-corperation movement due to less public support and voilence in the previous movement of non corperation that was called back by gandhi ji due to the reasons given before. He thought that combining khilafat and non corpeation will also bring hindu and muslim together and mass participation would take place in the movement and would be benificial for the country.

The Khilafat movement gave a new direction to national movement. When the British abolished the office of Khalifa of Turkey ,the muslim turned against them. Mohammad Ali and Shaukat Ali,known as Ali brothers, started an agitation called Khilafat movement. A Khilafat committee was formed in India under the leadership of Hakim Ajmal khan, Ali brothers, Maulana Azad and Hasrat Mohani .It adopted Non cooperation movement to fight against british. The Khilafat movement lost its relevance when Mustafa kamal pasha dethroned the Turkish sultan and declared Turkey a secular republic.
