Amedeo Avogadro found that one gram atom of any element contains the same number of atoms and one gram molecule of any substance contains the same number of molecules which is equal to 6.022 x 10 23 .

This number is called Avogadro 's number or constant and the amount of the substance containing 6.022 x 10 23 atoms or molecules is called a mole . Mole is the counting unit in chemistry as it is used to express large number of atoms or molecules

for example, 1 mole of oxygen means 6.022 x 10 23 molecules of oxygen. 1 mole of any substance can be defined as Amount of a substance that contains as many particles (atoms, molecules or ions) as there are atoms in 12 g of the 12 C isotope.

Molar mass of a substance can be defined as the mass of one mole of a substance in grams and it is numerically equal to atomic/molecular/formula mass in u.

Atom is the smallest particle of the element, which can participate in any chemical function but can not live independently. Fluid, solid and gas all the substances are formed from atoms. The atoms together form the molecules. It is the smallest particle of element or compound, which can live in an independent state called an atom
