Significance of photosynthesis-

1) Photosynthesis is a physiological process which serves as the driving and vital force to obtain food and fuel for all non-photosynthetic organisms in universe.

2) Organic (carbohydrates) obtained by photosynthesis are basically used to synthesise fats, proteins, nucleoproteins, pigments, enzymes, vitamins, cellulose, organic acids etc.

3) Carbohydrates synthesised during dark reaction of photosynthesis become structural parts of the organisms.

4) In the process, solar energy is converted into chemical energy by utilizing simple raw materials like CO 2 and H2O.

5) The process provides energy in terms of fossil fuels like coal and petrol obtained from plants which lived millions and millions of years ago.
