Sound means the vibration of molecules.So the faster the molecules vibrate the faster the sound will travel.

In solid the molecular density is very high and the intermolecular space is very small(i.e.the space between molecules is very small).So if any sound travels through a solid the molecules will vibrate faster because the space between molecules is less.Due to this one molecule will touch another molecule very quickly.Thus the sound travels faster in solids.

The density of liquids is lesser than solid.So,the intermolecular space is also less.That's why the velocity of sound in liquis is less.
