Thanks for asking the question.
Acid-base reactions are called neutralization reactions. Whenever an acid and a base reacts, salt and water are produces. These results are always same. In this way they nullify each others effects. This can be explained easily by an example:
If we react HCl which is an acid with a strong base NaOH,
HCl + NaOH = H2O + NaCl
Hence, the conditions are fulfilled. Acid and base reacted and gave NaOH which is a salt and a water molecule.
Hope it helps.

•Take about 2 ml of dilute sodium hydroxide solution in a test tube and add two drops of phenolphthalein solution to it the colour of the solution changes into pink

•To this Pinky solution add Hydrochloric solution drop by drop the solution becomes colourless

• now add a few drops of sodium hydroxide to the above colourless solution the pink colour of the solution reappears

• the reaction taking place can be written as :

NaOH+Hcl ------》Nacl+H2O

• This reaction is known as neutralisation reaction
