Take an iron nail.Keep it in wet cotton exposed to air.Rusting takes place showing that air and moisture are necessary for rusting.

- Rusting is a type of corrosion.
- Rust is formed by following reaction
4Fe + 3O2 → 2Fe2O3

# Conditions necessary for rusting of iron -
1) Bare surface of iron is essential for rusting.
2) Rusting occurs on contact of iron with oxygen/water.
2) Salty water & acid rain favours rusting.
