1} first due to expansion of trade of cotton and opium many came to settle in bombay.(mostly shopkeeper)...
2) establishment of many cotton textile mills and industries
3) dur to famine indry regions of kutchch many people came to bombay...
Now due to Rapid expansion and unplanned condition of the city the crisis of housing and water supply became acute. The arrival of textile mills increase the pressure on Bombay housing and the expansion of the city became a necessary process.
Due to lack of story houses for living the government had to immediately proclaim land from the Sea for the expansion of Bombay to provide more area for the people to live-in..
