1)Godan(the gift of cow) was published in 1936.It remains Premchand's best known work.

2)It is an epic of the Indian peasantry.

3)The novel tells the story of Hori and his wife Dhania,a peasant couple.

4)Landlords ,moneylenders etc rob their land and force them to become landless
labourers.

5)Yet Hori and Dhania retain their dignity to the end.
