Functions and powers of prime minister are as follows:-

1). Formation of council of ministers :- After gaining his office, the prime minister frstly forms the council of ministers. The prime minister decides the. No. Of members in council of ministers and their protfolios in accordance with constitutional provisions.

2). Leader of lok Sabha :- the prime minister is the leader of lok Sabha in the parliament. All the government resolutions including the annual budget are formed as per his directions.

3). Making appointments:- the right of appointing various important officers which the constitution has provided to the president is actually practised by president not as per his direction, but along with the advice given by the prime minister.

4). Establishing inter relationship b/w president nd the cabinet :- only the prime minister is the medium to establish contact with the head of the nation on issues of public interest.

5). Coordination b/w various departments of the government :- the prime minister establishes coordination b/w various departments of the government by which the entire government may function in the form of a unit.

6). Division nd amendment of protfolios among the ministers:- the prime minister uses hus direction while distributing various protfolios amongst his ministers nd normally no one opposes the final list made by prime minister.
