The agreement between the French and the English in India proven to be short-lived. In 1756 there broke out Seven Years War in Europe and before long the two nations began to fight in India also. The third Anglo-French battle declared to be decisive. The French factories in India were recovered but they could no longer be sustained or even protected with troops.

The French govt sent a strong military under the leadership of Count de Lally to battle with the British in India. He seized Fort St George and determined to attack Madras. But he failed in his attempt. He was ordered to withdraw to Pondicherry and was defeated by Sir Eyre Coote in the conflict of Wandiwash in 1760.

This campaign sealed the future of the French in Indian territory. Bussy was captured and made prisoner whereas Mahi and Jinji were suffered by the French due to immediate succession. The French lost all their colonies in India. The war concluded in 1763 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris.
