Merits- Greater yield. The crop can be protected from insects and pests with the help of pesticides and insecticides. Crop output can be increased with a good irrigation system.

Demerits- Because it required a significant amount of capital, it was inappropriate for poor farmers. Due to the constant use of chemical fertilizer's, the soil fertility of the area diminished. Due to the ongoing usage of groundwater for irrigation, it also lowers the groundwater level.
