Following are the three provisions of the act passed in Sri Lanka in 1956 to establish the supremacy of Sinhala:
1. The democratically chosen Sri Lankan Government enacted an act in 1956 to replace the English language with Sinhala (the language of the Sinhala people). The administration did not give any atten-tion to the Tamil language.
2. The government formed a scheme which favored the Sinhala candidates in education and govern-ment employment.
3. A new constitution revealed that Sri Lanka would patronize and preserve Buddhism.
