There are two different process of preparation of ethane, they are-

1. Ethane can prepared in a laboratory by heating ethanol as well as ethyl alcohol in presence of excess concentrated sulphuric acid at the temperature of 160−170℃

C2H5OH+H2SO4160−170∘C−→−−−−−−−−CH2=CH2+H2O

2. Ethane gas can also be prepared in a laboratory by the cracking of hydrocarbons like kerosene or candle wax.
