External storage is outside the computer enclosure. Internal is inside. External storage sometimes needs an additional power source, internal is connected to the computer power supply. External storage can use the same sort of connection (SATA) as internal, but it frequently just uses USB as that is more common.

Two ways where external storage complements internal memory:

  • Internal memory like RAM is limited in size that is only up to 8GB but on the other hand, external memory provides a larger space to the user to store data up to 2TB.
  • Internal memory is volatile in nature whereas external memory is non-volatile in nature which means that when we turn off our computer system the data in our internal will be lost but the data in external memory will remain safe.
