When Bismillah was 5 year old he regularly went to the nearby bihariji temple to sing bhojpuri chaita at the end of which he would earn a big laddoo of 1.25 kg. When he was a young boy he accompanied his unce Ali Bux to Vishnu temple where he would listen to him for hours. When he was 14 years old he went to Allahabad Music Conference where he was praised by Ustad Faiyaz Khan. He worked in All India Radio in 1938 and soon he became a famous shehnai player. On the event of 15 August 1947 he played Shehnai and became the first Indian to greet the independent nation with shehnai. He also worked in various films. And in 2001 he was awarded with Bharat Ratna
