Answer:

The process of silk production is known as sericulture. Extracting raw silk starts by cultivating the silkworms on mulberry leaves. Once the worms start pupating in their cocoons, these are dissolved in boiling water in order for individual long fibres to be extracted and fed into the spinning reel.

Answer:

Silk is a fine, strong, soft and shining fibre produced by silkworms in making their cocoons. The rearing of silkworms for obtaining silk is called sericulture. In order to obtain silk, mulberry trees are grown, silkworms are reared and their cocoons collected to get silk fibres. A female silk moth lays hundreds of eggs at a time. The eggs are then stored on paper strips and sold it to silkworms farmer. The farmer keep the eggs at suitable temperature and humidityunder hygienic conditions for hatching. When the eggs hatch larvae or caterpillars came out. They are fed mulberry leaves. After 25 to 30 days they stop eating and ready to spin cocoons. They enclose themselves completely inside the silken cocoons in 2 to 3 days. Then all the cocoons collected in one place. The pile of cocoons are placed into hot water. In this process the cocoons are separated from pupa. This is the process of production of silk.
