The nuclear reactor consists of :

1) Nuclear Fuel

Nuclear fuel is a fissionable material that produces energy on nuclear fission. Usually U233 or U235 are used.

2) Moderator

It is used to slow down fast moving neutrons. Eg: Heavy water, graphite, paraffin etc.

3) Coolant

These are used to transfer heat produced to the surroundings.
