Born into a very modest household, Bismillah Khan. His early years were spent on the historic Dumraon estate in Bihar. At the age of six, he travelled to Benaras. In this location, he studied shehnai with his maternal uncle AliBux. Throughout the world, he performed Indian classical music. At the age of 14, Bismillah Khan began receiving accolades. At the Indian Music Conference in Allahabad, he won best performance honours, and the Music Conference in 1947 awarded him three prizes. He welcomed the country with Shehnai on the first Independence Day. Also praised were Osaka and Montréal. He was honoured with an auditorium in Tehran. He received the Bharat Ratna, the highest honour for a civilian.
