xy is a line parallel to BC of triangle ABC. if BE || AC and CF|| AB meet xy at E and F respectively show that area ABE = area ACF

Forming  two parallelogram between parallel lines xy and BC which are equal in area because they are between same base and parallel lines then you wil find a common traingle ABC between both the parallelogram remove the area ABC you will find EBA = ACF . Hence Proved. Try it.
