Chander Gupta maurya- the founder of mighty Mauryan empire in 321 BC, was one of the greatest kings of India. He overthrew the Nandas and integrated large fragmented areas and established a might empire with its capital at Patliputra. He was a strong ruler and conquered large territories to his empire. He is credited with invasion of south as well.

Besides a great conqueror, he was a great administrator as well. He established a centralized and efficient administration, well-organised army, promoted architecture etc. He later abandoned the throne in favor of his son Bindusara and went to Sravanabelagola in Mysore region in the company of Badrabahu, a jain saint and starved himself to death as per Jain traditions.
