  • A typical anther consist of four microsporangia.

  • The four lobed anther begins its development as an undifferentiated mass of parenchyma cells.

  • These cells are surrounded by an epidermis.

  • The newly formed epidermis becomes two lobed and then four lobed.

  • The wall of anther is multilayered and is composed of;

  1. Epidermis
  2. Endothecium
  3. Middle layer
  4. Tapetum.
