There occurs five stages of the process of germination of the seeds. The steps are described or listed below -

1. Imbibition

This is the first step where the seeds starts absorbing water. Through this process, primary type of root arises from the radicle.

2. Respiration

Seeds cannot germinate without getting oxygen. So, they take in oxygen from the air.

3. Light

Seeds have a high intensity response towards light.

4. Growth Regulators

The embryo's cells undergo division and also expands.

5. Embryo Development

The embryo becomes very active and undergoes several divisions to form seedlings.
