There are 4 types of electron transitions -
1) σ → σ* (alkanes)
2) n → σ* (oxygen, nitrogen, sulphur)
3) n → π* (carbonyl compounds)
4) π → π* (unsaturated compounds)
5) σ → π* (carbonyl compounds)
