The Himalayan Mountains are formed in the range of Tibetan plateau and as a result, it collides between the Indian Plate and Eurasian Plate over 50 million years ago.  

The Northern plain was formed by connecting the deposits and brought by the major three rivers and their tributaries. Alluvium was actually deposited at the back of the Himalayas for millions of years.
