- In Helen's own words, "Nature is a feeling, a loveand an appetite."- Having lost her sense of sound as well as sight, Helen shared a unique relationship with nature.- Nature soothed and calmed her and she spent a lot of time outdoors.- Nature became an invaluable teacher for helen along with Miss Sullivan.- She learnt that her sense of smell and touch could teach her many things about nature and life: 'The best and the most beautiful things in theworld .....must be felt with the heart.'- The garden is her favourite place and the forces of nature teach her the lessons of perseverance, patience and courage. She learns to face the 'storms' and get back on the 'tree of life'.
