Histological Structure of Artery

  • The histological structure of artery reveals that the artery is majorly made up of 2 layers Tunica intima/interna, Tunica media and Tunica adventitia.
  • The ‘tunica intima’ is the innermost layer of the ‘blood vessels’ and it lines the ‘lumen’ of the ‘blood vessels’. This layers are made up of squamous epithelium cells mostly.  
  • The ‘tunica media’ is the middle layer and it is mostly made up of ‘elastic fibres’ and smooth muscles.  
  • The ‘tunica adventitia’ is the ‘outermost layer’ and it is lined with collagen fibres .
