What is holozoic nutrition ?

Holozoic nutrition is a type of nutrition in which food is first ingested by an organism, then digested, absorbed and then used for giving energy for carrying out life processes.

How does amoeba get it's nutrition ?

1. Amoeba extends it's pseudopodia, which are finger-like projections and engulfs the food particle. This is known as phagocytosis.
2. A food vacuole is then formed.
3. In the food vacuole, the food is digested using digestive enzymes.
4. In this process of absorption, the nutrients from the digested food material are absorbed into the cell’s cytoplasm by leaving behind the undigested particles.
5. Then the absorbed food is utilized to obtain energy for everyday-tasks.
6. The undigested food is then thrown out of the body, rupturing the cell membrane.
