Formation of coal:

  • Coal is formed by decomposition of living organisms which lived million years ago.
  • Million years ago, plants and animals lived in a swampy forest. After the animals and plants died, other plants and animals grow instead of earlier organisms.
  • The dead organisms form rot and form a layer of decaying things. After sometimes, water and light stop entering that layer.
  • This way another layer of dead things will be formed, this way many layers are formed in the span of thousand years.
  • When these thing are under heat and pressure for million years, they form coal.
