Usually, metals used for producing light have high resistance. Since they have high resistance, they will noat conduct electricity. So it draws lots of electricity to complete the circuit.

So, it gets heated up because of resistance. Let me elaborate this. Think that you are a gate keeper for something. You don't want to send people from outside to inside. Now, you can stop a few people right?? If lots of people come and force and push together on you, they will eventually go through you. Ok? So that few people are like less electricity. The resistor can hold with less electricity. But when more electricity (more people) comes, it cannot hold.

So because of this resistance, the metal gets heated up. And it gets so much heated up that it produce light. For this, i will give example. See, did you see any fire anytime?? In a dark room, if you put fire on a wood block, you can see the light of the flame right?? In same way, when the metal gets heated, it produces light.

So, electric heating is used to produce light.
